markets as tech

i’ve been reading about economics from a marketeer lately. interesting stuff. infuriating stuff. but i am my enemy’s best friend, as nobody ever said. so i learn this stuff. what did i learn? markets are a technology. a sociological tech, but nonetheless. and i had another realization. democracy was the first political manifestation of that tech. wow. mind. blown.

mileage for 2017; goals for 2018

i walked 1060 miles last year. the low was january with 34 miles. the high was august with 171 miles. i’m quite proud of that number. overall i lost about 20 pounds. if my calculations are correct, i may have lost about 30 pounds and gained back about 4 pounds of fat, 4 pounds of muscle and 2 pounds of water (retained from creatine/beta-alanine). i consider that a pretty good year. now that i’m done with my cutting phase and started my bulking phase, i’m looking forward to maintaining my body weight right about 199 pounds while adding muscle and reducing my lipids. my goal for 2018 is to lose 12 pounds of fat and add 12 pounds of muscle. that’s very, very ambitious. it will also be very hard to measure. my plan to solve that problem is to get my body fat measured with dxa/dexa in january of 2018 and then again approximately 365 days later in january of 2019. i also need to come up with some intermediary measurements to keep me on track. for instance, measure my chest size, my bicep size and my thighs. i think i’ll spend some time doing that today.
