predictive analytics my ass

the danger with not doing science is becoming clear. take predictive analytics for example. we have been led to believe by statisticians and wonks and quants that stats are the only method our civilizations have to predict the future. this is nonsensical and becomes more so every day.

they are not predicting the future. they are deluding themselves. what they are actually doing is analyzing the past. in certain rhythmic and in invariant systems, such as the orbit of the earth around the sun, the past predicts the future quite nicely. the future of chaotic or complex systems is quite unknowable using these methods. unfortunately they misapply stats on the complex systems and end up with random results. the truly unfortunate consequence is what comes next.

they are limiting the conditions of the future and tracking the system down the path they want it to go down. simply, they are simplifying the complex to the detriment of complexity effects. limiting the number of variables through tracks, policies, procedures does tend to produce orderly results, but that order comes at a huge cost. huge. enormous.

i’m looking at you fuckbük, gizoogle and aaaxapple. you aren’t predicting the future, you are killing it.

correlation does not imply causality! do the science, fuckers!
